Jack Olsen, "The Bridge at Chappaquiddick"
2017 | ISBN-10: 197999059X | 282 pages | EPUB | 0,5 MB
And on its surface, the Chappaquiddick Incident (as it has infamously become known) was a simple but tragic traffic accident. However, its political fallout caused it to become the most speculated-upon car accident until Princess Diana's fatal ride, some 28 years later: Was Kennedy drunk? Was he trying to conceal an affair by deliberately killing Kopechne? Why did he wait for so long before reporting the accident? And who else was involved? Olsen tells the tale with as much detail as was made available to him. Though there is apparently only a single living eye-witness to the accident (Kennedy himself, who described having the "sensation of drowning" on live television a week later), Olsen tracks down the incongruous statements made by others who were indirectly involved… and comes to a potential conclusion which would be difficult to refute. There is no legal evidence of this conclusion, of course, but his alternate explanation of events turns much of the circumstantial evidence into a logic-of-sorts

Joan Druett, "She Captains: Heroines and Hellions of the Sea"
2001 | ISBN-10: 0684856913 | 304 pages | EPUB | 0,6 MB
Long before women had the right to vote, earn money, or have lives of their own, "she captains" – bold women distinguished for courageous enterprise on the high seas – thrilled and terrorized their shipmates, performed acts of valor, and pirated with the best of their male counterparts. From the warrior queens of the sixth century b.c. to the female shipowners influential in opening the Northwest Passage, She Captains brings together a real-life cast of characters whose audacity and bravado will capture the imagination. In her inimitable style, Joan Druett paints a vivid portrait of real women who were drawn to the ocean's beauty – and danger – and dared to captain ships of their own.

Augustine of Hippo, "City of God"
2004 | ISBN-10: 0140448942 | 1184 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
St Augustine, bishop of Hippo, was one of the central figures in the history of Christianity, and City of God is one of his greatest theological works. Written as an eloquent defence of the faith at a time when the Roman Empire was on the brink of collapse, it examines the ancient pagan religions of Rome, the arguments of the Greek philosophers and the revelations of the Bible. Pointing the way forward to a citizenship that transcends the best political experiences of the world and offers citizenship that will last for eternity, City of God is one of the most influential documents in the development of Christianity.

Maxime Tandonnet, "1940 : un autre 11 novembre"
Tallandier | 2014 | ISBN: 2847346058 | French | EPUB | 249 pages | 3.97 MB
