Interprofessional Education and Medical Libraries: Partnering for Success by Mary Edwards
English | July 29th, 2016 | ASIN: B01IJ2TBRI, ISBN: 144226389X | 220 pages | EPUB | 5.16 MB
This book describes the variety of interprofessional education (IPE) programs in both didactic and clinical settings, and how librarians are partnering to further the success of these programs and expand the notion of "interprofessional" beyond the typical health professions.
Chapters describe library involvement in planning, development, design, and evaluation of their institutions in the education of a variety of healthcare professionals on teamwork in healthcare, also known as interprofessional care (IPC) in an interprofessional, team-based setting. IPE focuses on topics including understanding the training and roles of various health professionals (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, mental health practitioners, etc.), the importance of teamwork, working in healthcare teams, the role of patient safety and healthcare teams, and other areas related to an interprofessional approach to health care.
To prepare future health care professionals for work in a clinical setting that increasingly features IPC and to fulfill accreditation requirements, medical and health colleges across the nation have created IPE programs. Just as librarians are involved with other aspects of the education of our students, librarians are involved with IPE. Descriptions and evaluations of this work is being presented at professional conferences, but this is the first book to cover the topic.
Interprofessional Education and Medical Libraries: Partnering for Success from the prestigious Medical Library Association provides a brief introduction to IPE and features descriptions of how librarians are involved with IPE at their institutions, paying particular attention to librarians' roles in the planning, design, development, and evaluation of their institutions' IPE programs. While several chapters focus on the role of the medical librarian in IPE programs, to broaden the potential audience and impact, the book includes other perspectives of IPE.
Highlights include content on topics ranging from foundational concepts (history of IPE programs, theoretical and pedagogical foundations of IPE, accreditation, assessment) to case studies from high profile IPE programs and specific examples from practice. IPE programs in both didactic (non-clinical) and the clinical setting are included.

Absorbable and Biodegradable Polymers by Shalaby W. Shalaby, Karen J.L. Burg
Language: English | 2003 | ISBN: 0849314844 | 304 pages | PDF | 2,85 MB
Interest in biodegradable and absorbable polymers is growing rapidly in large part because of their biomedical implant and drug delivery applications. This text illustrates creative approaches to custom designing unique, fiber-forming materials for equally unique applications. It includes an example of the development and application of a new absorbable system, a condensed encyclopedia on novel PEG-based copolyesters, and the first comprehensive discussion of a novel class of absorbable tissue adhesives. The book also provides up-to-date information on important tissue engineering technologies and approaches to utilizing these technologies for long awaited practical applications.

The Manga Guide to Physiology (Manga Guides) by Etsuro Tanaka
English | 1 Nov. 2015 | ISBN: 1593274408 | ASIN: B019P5R1DO | 256 Pages | PDF | 25.38 MB
Student nurse Kumiko has just flunked her physiology exam and has one last shot at passing her makeup test. Lucky for her, newbie health science professor Kaisei needs a guinea pig for his physiology lectures.
Join Kumiko in The Manga Guide to Physiology as she examines the inner workings of the body while training hard for the campus marathon. You’ll learn all аbout:
–How the digestive system and the Citric Acid Cycle break food down into nutrients and energy
–How the body regulates temperature and vital fluids
–The body’s powerful cell defense system, led by helper T cells and enforced by macrophages
–The architecture of the central nervous system
–The kidneys’ many talents: blood filtration, homeostasis, and energy production
You’ll also gain insight into medical procedures like electrocardiograms, blood pressure tests, spirograms, and more.
Whether you’re cramming for a test like Kumiko or just want a refresher, The Manga Guide to Physiology is your fun, cartoon guide to the human body.

Canine and Feline Dementia: Molecular Basis, Diagnostics and Therapy by Gary Landsberg
English | 19 Oct. 2017 | ISBN: 3319532189 | 159 Pages | PDF | 3.35 MB
The book deeply focuses on the epidemiology, diagnostics, therapy and molecular basis of canine and feline dementia or cognitive dysfunction syndrome. The aim is to provide a broad overview of the current knowledge on canine and feline dementia. Experiences of clinicians are appropriately linked with current scientific knowledge in a readily comprehensible form. In the first three chapters we describe the clinical pictures of canine and feline dementia, discuss the medical causes of the disease and its phenotypic variability. In the 4th chapter we introduce the dog as an appropriate animal model for human Alzheimer’s disease progression. Then we shed light on the neuropathological hallmarks of canine and feline dementia. For the first time we touch upon the modern diagnostic approaches based on the neuroproteomic technological progress. Last but not least, we address the current pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches for therapy and risk and protective factors of feline and canine dementia. The book addresses clinicians, researchers, university teachers and graduate students in veterinary neurology and medicine.

Gonioscopy by Christoph Faschinger
English | 21 Jun. 2012 | ISBN: 3642286097 | 104 Pages | PDF | 4.8 MB
Gonioscopy is a very important differential diagnostic tool that permits assessment of the anterior chamber angle and correct classification of glaucoma as a basis for specific treatment. This book clearly explains how to perform gonioscopy to best effect. The anatomy of the chamber angle is systematically described, and the impact of age, developmental disorders, and other pathologies on the chamber angle is explained. Particular attention is focused on primary and secondary open-angle and angle-closure glaucomas. In each case, the role of gonioscopy in evaluating the chamber angle is described with the help of many photographs and illustrations. The importance of knowledge of the chamber angle for laser treatment and surgery is fully explained, and the impact of medications is discussed. The practitioner will find in Gonioscopy all the information required to use the technique effectively in diagnosis and treatment.
